Voluntary Cleanup Action

Confidential Client
|
March – December, 1999
|
|
SES was contracted by a confidential client on behalf of Chem Rail
Industries to determine Chem Rail’s liability associated with soil
contamination generated from spillage of contaminated wash water at a
rail car cleaning facility. SES reviewed all
background materials related to the site, and then developed and
implemented site sampling, quality assurance, and site health and safety
plans necessary for completing fieldwork at the site. Surface and subsurface soil sampling
and groundwater sampling was completed at the facility to investigate the
nature and extent of potential impacts. SES was able to
determine that Chem Rail was not responsible for contamination at the
site; rather, existing contamination was associated with past operations
at the facility. Based on this
information, SES determined that no further action by Chem Rail was necessary
regarding cleanup at the site.

Remediation
|
Premium Standard Farms, Inc.
|
June 2000 to Aug. 2001
|
|
SES completed the remedial investigation, groundwater monitoring and
remedial actions for a former waste lagoon at a swine production facility
in Kansas. SES wrote and
implemented the groundwater and surface water sampling and analysis plan,
including the installation of four new groundwater monitoring wells and
sampling to determine if groundwater has been impacted, and for the
abandonment of an existing network of older wells. Results of this investigation indicated
that while risks of groundwater contamination were minimal, contamination
could impact a nearby stream. SES designed and
implemented a phytoremedial strategy to intercept and clean water seeping
from the lagoon toward the stream.
Following completion of the remedial design, SES prepared and
submitted the final Facility Closure Plan for the facility in accordance
with KDHE requirements.

Environmental Site Assessments and Other
Environmental Support
|
Harvest Board International, Inc.
|
September 1998
|
|
For
this project, SES worked
with Harvest Board, a newly formed agribusiness, to screen potential
factory locations in western Kansas.
SES
conducted Phase I Environmental Site Assessments at three potential
factory locations to support a bond offering.

Phase I Environmental Assessments of Multiple
Feedmills
|
Farmland Industries
|
May-June 2000
|
|
Farmland Industries contracted SES to conduct
Phase I environmental site assessments at 30 feedmills throughout the
United States. The project
included the primary constraints of time and budget so effective
decisions regarding the feedmill operations could be made. SES completed the
assessments on time and within budget, and provided reports in a
consistent, concise format that provided added value to the client.
